Entertaining Your Children for Free

June 14th, 2009 · No Comments

When school is out, kids and parents alike can use a little help to keep everyone happy.  Why not check out some of the free resources available in your community.

The community library is a great place to start.  Many libraries offer free story time each week, which is tailored to specific age groups.  It may only last for around thirty minutes, but it entertains the children, and offers them interaction with other children.  While you are at the library, stop by the movie section.  You can check out movies for free, and they usually have a good selection.  Once you are finished with the movie section, take a walk through the book section.  Most children either love to read, or be read to.  Grab a handful of books, and check into the summer reading program.  Most library systems offer prizes for children who read a certain amount of pages, or books.

Certain movie theater chains offer free movies during the summer.  Regal Entertainment group offers a free family film festival throughout the summer.  The movies play at 10:00 am on Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s, at select locations.  This is a great opportunity, and there are not many children out there who wouldn’t love to go to the movies.

Check out your local churches.  Summertime is Vacation Bible School time, and it is free for children to participate.  VBS is full of games, activities, snacks, and friends.

Start searching in your neighborhood, there are plenty of freebies around that will keep your children entertained all summer long.
