Fun Money

August 13th, 2009 · No Comments

Even on the path to becoming debt free we all need a little fun money.  Sure, you’re working hard to get out of debt.  You want your debt to be gone, vanished, desolate, but the reality is if you are in substantial debt it is going to take some time.  In the meantime you will need some rewards for your hard work and effort.  You will need to celebrate your small triumphs in order to continue on the long, hard road to debt freedom.

A good plan is to work some “fun” money into your budget from day one.  Even the smallest amount, $5-10 per week can be a reward for throwing a couple hundred or more dollars to your debt, or even smaller amounts if you’re just starting.  You’ve got to start somewhere.

The fun money is spent on whatever you want and you don’t have to “answer” for what you choose to spend it on, you just spend it as your “fun” time, a coffee, a new book, a movie out.  Whatever your “fun” budget will afford.  You’ll thank yourself and feel refreshed to tackle that debt pile.
