April 26th, 2009 · No Comments

Yard sales are a great place to find super bargains.  Many people are able to purchase most of their clothing and other items by shopping yard sales.  Of course any frequent yard sales shopper will tell you there is a strategy to shopping and truly saving money with yard sales.

The following are a few tips for shopping at yard sales:

Get there early. At yard sales it is first come first served, therefore you want to get the best picks so you want to arrive early.  You might even phone ahead if a number is given on the sign to ask if they will have a particular item that you are looking for a specific clothing size.

Take small bills. Many times the items you will purchase at the yard sales will be for $1 or $2.  You will want to make it easier for you and for the yard sale owner by having small bills and change ready to use.  This will also save you a ton of time.

Bring your own bag. Many times the yard sale owner doesn’t have something to carry your goods home in so bringing your own can be a smart move.  Bringing a large sturdy canvas bag is a great option.

Give yourself time. Giving yourself plenty of time is also a must when yard sale shopping.  You won’t be able to find the best deals if you’re in a rush.  Taking it slow and being willing to spend the time doing it will help you to reap the biggest savings and benefits from your endeavors.
