How to Thrift

May 13th, 2009 · No Comments

Shopping at thrift stores is a great way to save some extra cash.  Many times you can find brand name items for a very low price.  If you get lucky, you can find things with the tags still attached.

Some things to think about when thrifting are:

  • Don’t limit yourself to only buying clothes at thrift stores.  You can find so many things if you look in the right place.  They have everything from pots and pans for the kitchen to jewelry and furniture.
  • Watch the price tag.  Some thrift stores have better deals than others.  Get to know your local shops, and when they have sales.  Some people like to set a $5.00 rule.  If it costs over $5.00 they leave it there.
  • Check everything closely.  Usually when you purchase something at a thrift store, there are no returns.  With that being said, it is very important to check the item well, before you purchase it.
  • Look for items that you could use as gifts.  If you see a new item for sale at a thrift store that would make a great gift for someone else and the price is right, pick it up.

There is no reason to be embarrassed or ashamed of shopping at thrift stores.  You really can get so much for your money, if you shop wisely.  Not to mention that it feels nice to look like a million bucks, knowing that you only spent pennies.
