How to Thrift and Save

March 27th, 2009 · No Comments

Taking advantage of thrift stores and consignment shops can really save you tons of money.  The image of secondhand goods usually leaves people feeling guilty for some reason, but it is perfectly acceptable.  By shopping for second hand goods, you are not only saving money but also helping the environment.  Some tips to remember when shopping secondhand are:

  1. Always check the item well.  You can not take it back.
  2. Ask about the price, at yard sales many times the seller will lower the price to get rid of their stuff.
  3. Ask yourself this important question:  Do I really need it?

Clothing is not the only thing that can be purchased secondhand.  You would be surprised at how many wonderful home goods you can find secondhand.  Baskets, furniture, and artwork are all commonly found in thrift stores and at yard sales.

No matter what your style may be, the chances are good that someone else has had that same style.  Take advantage of their castoffs, and keep a little extra money in your wallet.
