It is much more common than you might think. The number of families living, and surviving for that matter on one income. Whether because of necessity or because they have chosen to be a one income family the truth is it is doable. The following are some things that you can do so that you and your family too can afford to live on one income.
Prepare ahead of time. Assuming that you are going from two incomes to one you will want to do as much as you can to prepare yourself and your budget for the change in income. This may mean putting away savings for a period of time before the income is cut, or changing your lifestyle to fit the new income, whatever you choose it is smart to prepare before hand.
Make the cutbacks you can. Whether this means cutting out unnecessary expenses such as gym memberships, magazine subscriptions and daily trips to Starbucks or it means selling one vehicle and becoming a one vehicle family. However small or drastic a measure you must take if you want to succeed at living on one income you will take the necessary steps and make the necessary cutbacks in order to do so.
Plan your spending. Just because you’re living on one income does not have to mean you cannot enjoy life and the things that money often brings. Planning your spending, watching your spending and creating a workable budget can help you to afford the things that you want by spending and saving wisely.
