Repurpose to Save

May 17th, 2009 · No Comments

Do you have tons of things around your home that you no longer use?  If so, instead of throwing them out, try to find a new use for those items.  Recycling old items into new items is a great way to save.

Some ideas on how to get started:

Old clothes tend to clutter up our dressers and closets.  Clean out that clutter and take an inventory of what you have.  Women’s t-shirts and men’s button down shirts can be made into cute dresses for children.  If you have several items of children’s clothing that you are too sentimental to get rid of, why not turn them into a keepsake blanket.

While you are cleaning out the closets, do the linen closet too.  Old sheets can be cut up and made into cloth napkins.  Old towels can be cut down to smaller rags and used in place of paper towels.  Old washcloths can be used as cloth baby wipes.  Finding a new purpose for these items not only helps to save you money, but also helps to save the environment by eliminating waste.

Old magazines make great art projects for children.  With a pair of scissors and some glue, and old magazine can be transformed into a master piece by your little one.  Old newspaper can be used for paper Mache projects for the little ones as well.

These are just a few tips to get you started.  Once you get going, you will begin to see a new purpose for almost everything.
