Setting Up a Spending Plan

April 13th, 2009 · No Comments

What many people do not realize is that a “budget” is nothing more than a “spending plan”, putting you in control of your money, rather than allowing your money to be in control.  At the beginning of the month, or the pay period, you tell your money where it is going to go.  You record every dollar on paper, basically allotting money for each item that you will need to use it for, bills, utilities, debts, food, mortgage.  You want to give every dollar a name and spend it on paper before you spend it for real.

Creating this spending plan will also help you to see where your money is spent and if there are areas that you could cut back on spending, saving you  money and possibly giving you a surplus with which to pay off debt faster, or to put more into savings, whichever the case may be in your given situation.

After all, most of us do not get out of debt nor do we save because we are under the impression that we cannot afford to, that the money just isn’t in our budget, when the truth may be that it is, but that you are spending it friviosly or spending too much in one particular area.  Making changes can help you to get where you want to be financially, but first you must create a plan.
