There is a great debate, “always carry cash” or “never carry cash”.  For some of us carrying cash requires extreme discipline because if it is in our pocket it is “burning a hole in our pocket” and we can’t help but spend it, but for others, carrying cash gives them more discipline with their money and makes them realize just how fast the money flies out of their pockets.

Honestly, you must be honest with yourself and realize what your status is on cash.  If you are determined to make carrying cash work for you why not begin using an “envelope” system with specific amounts of money set aside for specific budget categories.

Or, if you just can’t seem to get up enough discipline to carry cash then opt for a debit card instead.  Either way be sure to keep up with what you are spending so that you do not overspend.
