Should You Refinance Your Mortgage

April 10th, 2009 · No Comments

People are trying to save money in any way that they can these days.  One of the ways people are looking to save is by refinancing their home mortgage, but will refinancing really save you money?  You should definitely ask yourself a few things before you run to the bank to refinance.  It is definitely worth doing your research before you cost yourself rather than help yourself.

Consider the following:

How much will you really save? Will your monthly payments be less, but take you longer in the long-run to pay off the entire balance?

Will your interest rate drop considerably? A good rule of thumb is that if the rate doesn’t drop a whole two percent then your savings will not be significant.

Will refinancing allow you to lock in a lower rate? If the refinance will only last for 5 years before changing again it may not be worth it to you for that short period of time.

Asking yourself some tough questions will help you prepare yourself for whether or not refinancing is really the way to go.
