Vacation…Under Budget?

June 16th, 2009 · No Comments

Vacations are super fun, but they can also be very expensive.  However, if you take a little time to plan your vacation properly, you can actually pull off your vacation under budget.  Consider the following items while planning your trip:

Food:  We all know that takeout food can be expensive, especially if you eat it at every meal.  Take a trip to the local grocery sore once you have checked into the hotel.  Pick up things that you can eat for breakfast, snacks, and even quick meals that you can cook for supper.  If you book a hotel room that has a full kitchen, you can actually cook your meals.  It may seem like an inconvenience, especially since you are on vacation, but the average family of four can spend around $60.00 per day on fast food, and that doesn’t include nice restaurants.

Avoid vending machines:  You would be much better off to grab a big package of drinks and take them back to your room, then to grab one from the vending machine each time you get thirsty.  Vending machines can really add up, and take a large chunk out of your budget by the end of the trip.

Look for discounts:  Certain attractions offer discounts if you see the early show.  Look for this type of deal when you are planning your itinerary for the trip.  Also look for places that allow children in for free.

These are three of the big steps that can help you return from vacation with cash left in your pocket.
